What’s New for 2019? Nothing…Kind of

This might not be exciting. I’m one of those people that constantly believes that “new years resolutions” are more fads than anything.

I’m not a big believer in that changing the date on the calendar actually changes anything.

There’s no denying there is an energy around the new year but I’ve taken to making changes or hacks every quarter in the last few years.

It’s every 3 months that I make changes or at the least look at them. While the end of the quarter and year is happening, I’m not making wholesale changes. The interesting thing is I’ve already started on this so it’s not that January 1 doesn’t matter, it’s just that I’ve been making these changes for the last 3-4 months.

“What’s new for 2019?” one of my friends asked.

“Honestly nothing,” I said. “I’m looking forward to having my decks cleared and not adding on more this or that.” Just 6 month ago, I approached essentialism differently and it was there that I realized now, I made a mistake.

My disciplined pursuit of less was actually a disciplined pursuit of more. Now, that I understand that my goal for 2019 is to laser focus and for the first time in at least 5 years focus on where I can be excellent. Not on what I can be good at and not adding more resolutions, more goals, more this or more that. Less of everything.

It might not be exciting but that’s what I’m excited about.
